Rose lived approximately 100 years earlier, and after she died in a house fire (on her birthday?) her parents plant roses in remembrance. The ghost's name is Rose, although I cannot remember the name of the living girl. As a matter of fact I found your query because I am also looking for the book! Holly, I think I know of the book, but not the title. Any attempts to solve this puzzle would be GREATLY APPRRCIATED!!! Thanks so much in advance! :-) Feels more like one big dream, than an actual book I read because the details are so foggy lol. And I don't remember the human child going to great lengths to convince her parents there was a ghost in the house, and I have this feeling the ghost told her to keep it a secret, so I think it was just their little secret, but I do feel at some point the human child told her parents. The ghost child was sweet and somewhat possessive of her human friend because she was lonely, showing up whenever she felt like it and sometimes too often. There where other flashback scenes too, where the human child could visually see the house as it used to look. At the top of the attic stairs was actually where the ghost child's room used to be. and the human child follows the ghost child up the stairs of the house and whatever attic is up there turns into a beautiful house looking beautiful and in good condition, just as it had all those decades ago when the ghost child lived there as a happy human child with her family. But throughout the book, there are "flashback" sequences where the ghost child wants to show the human child what her life was like, and says "follow me" in an excited playful mood. Anyway, a newspaper is found by the human child or human family later in the book talking about a house fire from decades ago, and this explains how the ghost child had died. FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THIS BOOK IS CALLED!!! I believe a family moves into a house and I can't remember if both the human child and ghost child are girls, but my gut is telling me they are.
